Even though MS has basically ditched the exclusive SKUs such as Tablet PC Edition and Media Center Edition, and merged them into standard SKUs, this doesn't mean MS will never do anything silly again and release Windows Vista Hologram PC Edition 2009.
With this Origami thing, one would think it's a new gadget that will need a new OS to run it. You know, a new UI to drive this thing, since its LCD is so small to properly see icons, and tapping the Start button with that tiny pen is a gamble at best.
All I can say is... please MS just make sure in the future don't tie an OS to a specific PC, like what you did with Tablet and Media Center, it JUST locks out everyone else AND add more confusion to the SKUs that are already enough out there...

Windows Vista Origami Edition?
No, there will not be such an edition. Vista is about bringing Media Center, Tablet PC and 64 bit computing mainstream. I don't believe the first generation UMPC devices will be able to run Vista properly, mainly because of the lack luster specs. Microsoft announced though at WinHEC 2005 that Vista versions of these devices would be available sometime in 2007.
The niche market editions of Windows is out. The SKUs available are not confusing, some properly won't be available in main stream markets. Starter 2007 for example is only available in emerging makets and developing countries. Windows Vista Enterprise will only be available under Volume Licensing.
This leaves you with, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate.
If you want to know what these versions can do and whats unique about each edition, check the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/versions/default.mspx -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm

If you put it that way, the ones today will be Ultra-Mobile 06, it's probably a trial run for the 07 Vista versions.
BUT, having said that, looking at the:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/umpc/howitworks.mspx
indicates it might be included in Home Premium, Business, Enterprise (might not), and Ultimate.
But to my original point. MS *please* don't make another SKU just for this device.

They won't make another SKU for this device! However, a C9 video with Otto B... something (I forget... might be Berkes?) said that technically Vista could be put on the device, and he's already got some with earlier builds of Vista running. However, my guess is that if they did decide to put Vista on it in the near future (which makes sense, Vista released, UMPC released yer know) then it'll have a simple "Program Launcher" application to install that's all... that's my reckoning.

And if you read my post again, I identified what you directed me to in the Press Pass report. They won't make a new Vista edition for Origami, just an existing edition and put something like the Program Launcher in it.
